Carbon markets

Carbon markets – challenges and opportunities in an Icelandic context

A report by a government working group on carbon markets was recently published and can be read herePDF (in Icelandic).

A few points from the report that we would like to highlight:

  1. Pending units from certified projects like ours are immediately valid in full in companies’ carbon accounting.
  2. The report recommends that domestic buyers purchase units from domestic projects first, before buying from abroad. In our view, this is simply “common sense”.
  3. Units should be registered in a database held by a third party, such as the Carbon Registry: Álfabrekka on the Carbon Registry

The findings of the report are fully in line with our project, which is very gratifying – it is almost as if parts of the report were written with it in mind.
